Siegen is traditional

Siegen’s history spans 800 years. The traditions of Siegen extend well beyond Hauberg communal forest management and tasty Riewekooche (potato bread). Every district of the city has a charm of its own, as reflected by the people, the villages and the religious communities. Local history is upheld by associations and individuals, from forestry, agriculture and handicrafts to mining history, lifestyle and education. Past and present are often seen to merge – in heritage-protected half-timbered houses and chapel schools, the old ways are sustained, practised and celebrated. Naturally, the ways in which we uphold traditions will form part of our ‘800’ celebrations in 2024.
